Wagner and Gaudi – Barcelona Opera Tour

12-15 March 2016

Opera friends were met personally at the airport by Ian Jones, and then whisked by taxi limo into the centre, and personally checked by Jeremy D Rowe into the wonderful modernista hotel Espanya, a 4 star hotel right next to the Liceu Opera House.

Opera friends enjoyed a performance of Gotterdämmerung at the Liceu opera house, Dvorak’s Cello concert at the contemporary styled Auditori and “Il Re Pastore” opera performance featuring Rolando Villazon in the historic modernista Palau de la Musica concert hall.

As usual, the tour featured a glamorous Gala dinner at Fonda restaurant during which we were privileged to enjoy  the company of Lance Ryan singing the role of Siegfried in Götterdämmerung. There were other opportunities for sight-seeing including the Gaudi historic buildings, the famous Basilica Sagrada Familia, and a guided tour of medieval part of Barcelona incorporating a “Churros con Chocolate” stop over to enjoy the delights of sweet Spanish cuisine.

Clients comments:

“We both had a wonderful time in Barcelona – it exceeded our expectations by a long way, and we will certainly look to come again when the chance arises. My wife especially was bowled over by the whole trip – the Dvorak and Encore were particularly special to her.” SW

“This is a quick line to say how we enjoyed the three nights in Barcelona. We turned out to be a most congenial group, and there was much fun and laughter. The highlight was Götterdämerung, which was brilliant. We both thought the end was magnificent, and (despite what directors tend to think) that had a lot to do with Wagner. We all wondered when the steel curtain would rise to show us something, and thank heavens (or Valhalla) it was minimal and not shocking.”  PLM

“There will be good memories of our delightful few days with you and the group.” RS
